Join us on a fantastic nature experience through one of the world’s strongest tidal currents. In a seaworthy fast going boat with all necessary safety, we take you on a safe adventure tour to the dramatic wall of Lofoten, abandoned fishing villages. We cross the maelstrom to visit bird islands with eagles, cormorants, gannets and seals and the famous Maelstrom itself.
The boat driver will meet you at our office where floatation suits and rescue equipment are dealt and passenger list signed. Our boat drivers have all necessary certificates, are well acquainted with the waters and conditions in the area. They have great local knowledge and therefore they also act as excellent guides on the trip. The boats are equipped with life-saving equipment according to applicable regulations.
When everyone is on board and the safety instructions given, the tour starts towards the tip of Lofoten. We stay close to shore so you get to see all the details in the nature and abandoned fishing villages. At the foot of the dramatic mountains you will see remnants of houses and fences, the only proof that there once lived many people here. We stop by places where we have observed the majestic sea eagle, and we move into the famous Maelstrom, the world’s strongest tidal current in open sea. In the middle of the current, there are small islands, rocks and skerries where the pelagic birds have found their place for nesting. We will look for cormorants and northern gannets. Puffins, eider ducks and eagles can often be seen in the area. After studying these beautiful birds for a while, we cross the current again and go to Yttersia of Lofoten before we return to Reine.
